Leander Enforces Phase 4 Water Conservation Measures
The City of Leander is implementing Phase 4 of its Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan. This is the most restrictive measure. The phase began on December 30 after the community used over a million more gallons of water than it should have. The city relies on the smaller Sandy Creek Water Treatment Plant, which reduces its water treatment capacity from 25 MGD to just 9 MGD. The plant upgrade is expected to be completed by January, after which the city will return to Phase 2. Phase 4 water conservation prohibits outdoor watering, turning off irrigation systems, and using potable water for filling or adding to swimming pools. Violations can result in warnings, fines, and even water service disruption.
